On Monday, July 18, 2023, a harrowing incident unfolded in Pasco County, Florida, culminating in a high-speed police chase that extended into the city of Tampa. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Travis James, is accused of committing a string of offenses, including stabbing a man, stealing a vehicle, and fleeing from law enforcement.

Stabbing and Car Theft

The incident began at approximately 11:30 a.m. when deputies from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence on Meadow Lane in Holiday, Florida. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

Witnesses at the scene identified James as the perpetrator of the stabbing. They reported seeing him fleeing the residence in a dark blue Toyota Camry belonging to the victim.

Police Chase

PCSO deputies swiftly initiated a search for James and the stolen vehicle. Approximately 30 minutes later, a deputy spotted the Camry traveling eastbound on State Road 54. The deputy attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the suspect refused to stop.

A high-speed chase ensued, with the suspect driving erratically and reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour. The chase continued onto the Veterans Expressway and eventually into Hillsborough County.

Apprehension

As the chase progressed, additional law enforcement agencies joined the pursuit, including deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) and the Tampa Police Department (TPD).

With the assistance of TPD officers, the suspect's vehicle was successfully disabled after a PIT maneuver near the intersection of Dale Mabry Highway and Kennedy Boulevard. James was taken into custody without incident.
