Washington, D.C. - A stolen car crashed in Northwest D.C. on Wednesday evening, injuring an elderly parent who was inside the vehicle. The carjacking occurred on Irving Street NW.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), officers responded to a report of a stolen car crash at around 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a crashed car and an injured elderly woman inside.
The victim, identified as an 82-year-old woman, was conscious and breathing when officers arrived. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The victim's son told police that he and his mother were driving in his car when they were approached by two men. One of the men pointed a gun at the son, demanding the keys to the car. The son complied, and the suspects fled in the stolen vehicle.
The stolen car was later involved in a crash on 16th Street NW near Irving Street NW. The suspects fled the scene on foot.
MPD is actively investigating the incident and searching for the suspects.
